Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Deputy Danny Healy-Rae’s Comments on Autism 17th September 2025

Dear Ceann Comhairle,

I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding remarks made by Deputy Danny Healy-Rae during the Sinn Féin Private Members’ Motion on Special Educational Needs on 17th September 2025.

At a time when autistic children and adults in Ireland face significant barriers in accessing education, healthcare, and social inclusion, it is particularly concerning that these views were expressed in the national parliament. The Oireachtas should be a place where public representatives demonstrate leadership, respect, and inclusion, not a platform for outdated and offensive stereotypes.

I ask that you, as Ceann Comhairle, ensure that Deputy Healy-Rae is given the opportunity to:

  • Retract and apologise for his remarks publicly.

  • He is required to undertake disability and autism awareness training to prevent further harm to the autistic community.

The words of public representatives matter. They shape attitudes and have real-life consequences for families and communities already struggling for equality and respect.

I trust you will treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves.

Sincerely,

[Your Full Name]
